Blind Love on First Date Island

I mixed, supervised the music, designed the soundscapes, foley and composed songs for this 3 part pilot for E4 and Blink Industries.

Blind Love on First Date Island, narrated by Bimini Bon-Boulash, is a surreal comedy dating format with a twist. Strangers are set up on blind phone dates, recorded and animated into our strange world, subverting the tropes of dating and reality TV - think Love Island and Love Is Blind meet Adventure Time.

The Rap

For this episode I was tasked with creating a beat to underscore Raj’s freestyle (4:33). I received the a capella rap and after working out a tempo and time signature to fit his flow I gave it the g funk production sheen needed to give Raj his moment of stardom.

Music Supervision & Sound Design

Using libraries from The Nerve, Deli Music and Audio Network I made the underscore to the three episodes. I used classic dating show style music (pizzicato strings, dramatic cymbal swells) to gibe it the instant feeling of a reality TV show while adding over the top sound effects and spacey ambience to bring it into the surreal cartoon universe.

I used dramatic changes between genres and sudden cuts to ambience to create comedy, awkward or loving moments and help steer the narrative. I even gave voices to some of the background characters. (4:10)
